Its tough out there in Music and Entertainment. Trust us, we know. All of us here have been canned at some stage in our careers. That’s why we started this site. If you are one of the lucky ones who has never been laid off or let go, you are extremely fortunate. God bless you, don't EVER take your gig for granted.
When you are canned, you will quickly learn who your real friends truly are. That chummy person in the LA office that you speak to daily and professed they loved you dearly, may suddenly stop returning your emails or calls once you are no longer with the company. The exec who says "You saved my ass, I owe you; if there is anything I can do for you let me know" will suddenly have their assistant pick up and tell you "sorry, he or she's not available right now" and the favor they owed you? Forget it. On the flip side, that person who you hardly ever spoke to and you kinda ignored because you thought they did not like you or gave you the wrong vibe, may be the one to email you with a lead or a tip for a new gig.
The first thing we tell our interns is, you will be fired or laid off some time during your career. It's going to happen. The chances are that it won't be your fault. You need to realize and accept this will happen to you then plan accordingly. Remember, if you do get canned, you will work again.
