Ten Questions with Megan Nicole.
Megan has over 850 million views on YouTube. She bravely agreed to answer our questions.
I am originally from Texas. I was raised in a suburb of Houston.
2. How did you get your first break?
The release of my first original song “B-e-a-utiful” was a big moment for me. That was what got the attention of the first label I was signed to.
3. You have over 800 Million Views on You Tube, so please tell us all about your rise on the Platform, including how did you get your start, who have you collaborated with, and how has your success changed your life, and what advice would you give a young up-and-coming Youtuber?
I started out with me and a guitar and my dad behind the camera pressing record. I’ve collaborated with artists like Boyce Avenue to Lindsey Stirling. It’s been such a rollercoaster of a journey with ups and downs that it keeps me humble and working hard. My passion for what I create drives me and I would advise young people who want to pursue something through YouTube is to make sure you are doing something you truly love because it is still a lot of work to be consistent.
4. Professionally, who is your biggest influence and why?
I really love Stevie Wonder. I grew up on his music so he will always be an influence on me musically. He’s a legend and his songs have connected with people over the years and that’s not a small feat.
5. How did you get started in music?
I was 15 when I knew music was what I wanted to pursue. I started out playing any local gigs or open mic nights I could find just to get myself out there.
6 Let’s imagine that you could not be in entertainment, what would you do with your life?
I’d like to think I might be an interior designer in another life. Still something that involves being creative.
7. Who or what inspires you?
I find inspiration from just doing life, exploring new places and through the stories of others.
8. What is the best and worst career advice you’ve been given so far?
The worst advice, maybe that I need to be more “edgy” a word I hear thrown around a lot in this industry, but not sure people know what it means. I think that it can mean different things for different people. The best, maybe to stay honest with myself and to who I am because it can be easy to get lost.
9. Tell us about your current project? Who are you working with?
I’ve been writing a lot with my husband , which has been a cool experience. There’s another level of honesty that goes into it working with someone you know so well. I’m honestly just getting back into more sessions since my last project.
10. How do you approach writing songs and who have you worked with
Sometimes it starts with a track, other times with a title or lyrics or even a melody. It can start of differently, but that sort of keeps it interesting. I’ve worked a lot with a producer named Morgan Reid as well as Keith Harris. They were both involved in my mini album “My Kind of Party”.
11. If, five years ago, you knew then what you know now. What advice would you give yourself?
Keep practicing your guitar and piano and write as often as you can.
12. Who would you like to work with in future?
Charlie Puth, Max Martin, Stevie Wonder, Ryan Tedder to name a few.
13. Is there anything that we did not ask that you wish to discuss?
I launched a collection with my friend Julie Mollo last summer called “Confetti Heart Collection”. It’s a clothing and accessories line that reflects a lot of the things we love including confetti and hearts of course.
