Actually, we lied, there are more than ten questions here. Eden tells us about where she’s from, her current projects and her plans for the future.
1. Where are you from?
I’m a southern California girl and Hollywood was always in the backdrop of my dreams. I was born in Anaheim. Then, we moved to Moreno Valley, California for most of my childhood. I graduated highschool early, got my driver’s license and moved to L.A. by the time I was 16.
2 How did you get your first break?
I got an acting agent right away and was booking random commercials for things like “Cranium Pop 5” or “Powerade” and from being on sets I made friends with other artists because I didn’t know anyone. I was an extra on a music video and met a girl who shared my passion for music and dance, so we started a group together. We wanted to play our own instruments and be like “The Runaways” I assumed the Cherie Currie role of course. We were signed by David Massey at Epic Records within 3 months of being a band. It was shockingly easy. But the road ahead wouldn’t be so simple.
3.. Who is your biggest influence and why?:
Madonna. She’s innovative, she’s tenacious, she’s her own boss, and you can say whatever you want about her voice, she puts on the best show and entertains you. I think she’s a fabulous queen. She’s also always been ahead musically in a lot of ways, finding young producers before they’re “hot” and giving them a shot.
4. If you could not be in entertainment what career would you choose?
I never really have an answer to this question. This is all I’m made to do. But I have plans to open an animal sanctuary one day on the side. I want to rescue mistreated animals and rehabilitate them.
5 What inspires you?
Another question that’s so difficult to answer because the answer is everything. I’m always paying attention to things around me, conversations being had that might hatch a title, or colors that set a mood. I’m a muse. I was a muse in Atlantis, at least that’s what two psychic mediums that never even knew each other told me at different times in my life, So I’m also my own source of inspiration.
6 What is the best career advice you have received so far?
That the cream always rises to the top”. My agent, John Marx, Just said that to me the other day on the phone. He represents Bruno Mars and Selena Gomez too, you could very well argue that he’s the best agent in the business, at least I certainly think so. You have to be persistent and honest with your work and eventually it will all click.
7 You had a Big Song on Virgin/Capitol Records “The Weekend”. Tell us how this song came about, writing & recording it, and what it was like to hear your song on the radio for the first time?
That was a case where I wrote the entire song (except for the bridge) in a free style on the mic pretty much in one take. That’s never happened before and hasn’t really happened since. It was special because it was so instant. Almost annoying, but you couldn’t get it out of your head. Hearing it on the radio was cool, but performing it on Good Morning America was even cooler.
8 If you could work with anyone alive or dead, who would it be?
Probably Prince. He’s a genius and I just think he could pull something brilliant and different out of me. He loved working with muses.
9 You are a very strong songwriter. Tell us about how you approach to songwriting, and who you like to write with in the future?
My favorite co-writer is Bonnie Mckee, we have a chemistry together you can’t explain. I’m going to Sweden later this spring to work with Jocke from The Teddybears. I’m a huge fan of his writing and production. Beyond that I don’t know, I’d like to reconnect with Nellee Hooper again, we made some real magic together years ago that never came out. I also wrote a few songs with Dave Sitek from T.V. On The Radio that were so left and cool but no one understood them except us. Maybe now that I’m calling the shots we could try again. I also always wanted to work with Rick Nowels, but I asked him twice in person and he never followed through with me. Maybe that’s just not meant to be.
10 If five years ago you knew then what you know now, what advice would you give yourself ?
Don’t trust major labels. Don’t change for them, and don’t expect anyone to keep their jobs. Put your faith in yourself. You hold the power. Be the Tree not the fruit.
11 Tell us about your new single “Say It Again” and your collaboration with T. Mills.
It’s an anthem for the underdog. It’s all about getting back up and fighting. Rocky style… It’s a positive message in a world with so much negativity. And at the end of the day it’s FUN to sing along to. Music should be fun.
12 Do you have any new projects you want to talk about?
I’m releasing an acoustic song April 6th called “Cinematic Goodbye”… It’s one of the most special songs I’ve ever recorded.
